Biography

"I became a physician because I wanted to provide a service to people," said Dr. Julianne Thompson. "From my teenage years as a candy striper and working as a nursing assistant through college, I discovered that medicine best fit my interests and personality."

Dr. Thompson enjoys the challenges of medicine and understands that a visit to the doctor isn't everyone's favorite activity. "Each patient's health is unique, and my role is to partner with them to work toward good health," she says.

After earning her medical degree from the University of Arizona, she completed her internship and residency at the Mayo Graduate School of Medicine in Rochester, Minn. She is board certified in family medicine and works on the internal medicine team caring for adult patients.

Dr. Thompson spent 33 years in Arizona before moving to Oregon. She enjoys the green scenery, rain and cold weather here. In her free time, she enjoys hiking, wine tasting and spending time with her two adult children and grandson. Dr. Thompson is fluent in Spanish.

Patient Ratings and Comments
About Our Survey

The Patient Rating score is based on responses given during the CAHPS Patient Experience Survey. Responses are measured on a 10-point scale, with 10 being the best score. These scores are then translated to a 5-point scale in order to display results in a 5-star rating. Comments are also gathered from the same survey and displayed in their entirety with the exception of any language that may be considered slander, libel or contain private health information, which will be removed prior to publishing the comments. These comments are the views and opinions of patients and are not endorsed by or necessarily reflect the views of Providence.

My doctor is very good at asking questions and listening. I have difficulty in thinking as fast as she so I seem to always wished I had asked more questions but feel that as soon as she enters the exam room we are on a time clock.I guess I need a slower pace. She is good at getting to the point.

Dr Thompson is an excellent MD. She, and others in the practice treat me well. This visit I waited for care, but not usually. I was happy to wait because I knew that when she came to see me, I would not feel rushed. I have been at this clinic since 1995.

It was a good visit. Still feel like I am awaiting a summary or written explanation of my test results. They are fairly clear but they're just numbers. I haven't found a summary from a human yet.

This appt with Dr Thompson was a "meet and greet" as my previous PCP retired this summer and I was looking to sign up with someone else. Dr Thompson is delightful and I look forward to having a partnership with her in guiding my healthcare for as long as she's working. What drives me CRAZY is the information quest. I was previously a patient of the wonderful doctor, [...], at PMG Milwaukie. Therefore all my medical information should be in EPIC. When reminded of my appt through MyChart, there were questions about updating medications and, I believe, other issues. When I arrived at Dr Thompson's office I was given a written questionnaire to complete concerning healthcare information, then the MA asked me similar questions when I was back in the exam room, and then Dr Thompson, the one who really should be allowed to know my medical issues also asked similar questions. ENOUGH ALREADY! [...]

This was my first visit to a doctor with Providence. It was a thorough introduction. All medical records had been transferred from [...] so my Dr. had access to my previous medical history and knew what questions to ask.

Recently (in the last 6 months) there have been some small but tedious mishaps - mixed up lab test and subsequent confusion about what happened, long windows of time without response to questions, botched blood work. I have really enjoyed the team, but some recent circumstances are a little alarming. [...]

Dr. Thompson was amazing! I recently moved here from Oklahoma, loved my previous doctor who I'd seen for many years and was not looking forward to establishing a new medical relationship. Dr. Thompson was personable and very thorough. What a delightful surprise! I felt she listened to my concerns and provided exceptional care.

I was treated with respect which makes it easier to relate problems and receive the help I needed

I appreciate the difficulty in covering multiple issues in a small time frame, and am willing to return to discuss things that need fourther discussion. I am frustrated that initial reluctance to refer to specialists ended up resulting in diagnoses that would have otherwise been missed. I am also not a big fan of eastern medicine. I ride out her ideas until I can't understand the relevance any longer.

[...] The nurse's broken English was very hard to understand. When she called me in, it took me a minute to realize she was saying my name. When she saw my weight and what it was 7 months ago she told me I needed to watch that and if at least I should just "try not to gain anymore weight." [...] Stress is a very real part of my life. I have clinical depression and anxiety, which was one of the two things I wanted to address with the doctor. These conditions together with my usual stress [...] is reason enough for my weight changes. [...] May be the doctor could look at my records before opening her mouth and really help me because I am struggling!!! And the nurse should not be giving any advise to someone she has just met. Oh, yea, this was my first visit!

I had been asking for a referral to a mental health expert for trauma since Oct '15. Finally, in Sept '16 I found one myself with lots of work on the internet. [...] A recent surgery took care of much of my pain, but I'm left with the feeling that my doctors could have helped me get help for the ongoing depression & anxiety I have with so much trauma. However, Dr. Thompson is a gem.....she is smart , efficient & experienced in the medical field. I greatly respect her for getting me ready for a big surgery with so many other problems.
