Biography

As a primary care physician Kevin Sellars, M.D., strives to support patients in achieving their health goals, works in partnership with them and serves as their advocate.  In his practice he emphasizes "quality of life," noting that "medicine is not about disease; it is concerned with how we can use our knowledge and skill to meaningfully enhance the quality of life regardless of someone's condition."

For Dr. Sellars, forming a relationship with his patients in which he can work with them to provide optimal health care and support through difficult times is the most rewarding aspect of his work. "Every patient is someone's loved one and should be treated not only as I want to be cared for, but as I want my own family to be cared for," he says.

Dr. Sellars earned his M.D. at Ross University School of Medicine. He completed his internship and residency at Roger Williams Medical Center/Boston University School of Medicine and was chief medical resident at this institution.

About Our Survey

The Patient Rating score is based on responses given during the CAHPS Patient Experience Survey. Responses are measured on a 10-point scale, with 10 being the best score. These scores are then translated to a 5-point scale in order to display results in a 5-star rating. Comments are also gathered from the same survey and displayed in their entirety with the exception of any language that may be considered slander, libel or contain private health information, which will be removed prior to publishing the comments. These comments are the views and opinions of patients and are not endorsed by or necessarily reflect the views of Providence.

Dr. Sellars is an excellent physician and I've been seeing him for years. I do think his plate is very full..My regular appt. was scheduled for [...] and then, as happens more and more often, his office called and said they needed to reschedule and I wouldn't be able to see him for 2 months. I objected, because over the summer I had a serious colorectal scare and was quite anxious to discuss it with him, together with an ecg that had been done by my anesthesiologist twice before having colorectal procedures and he had wanted me to discuss it with my regular provider. [...] In fairness, when my appt. was being rescheduled the person calling said I could see his nurse or PA if I needed the same time frame. I wasn't comfortable with that, because I wanted to see my Dr. When I finally got to see Dr.Sellars, he was not aware of any of my procedures until looking at my chart. He did, however, put my mind at ease, by explaining that I should definitely feel comfortable with seeing his PA, because he would be kept in the loop.

I had a minor additional health issue that Dr. Sellars helpfully took care of during the visit.

Aside from my medical issues, I face a particular time of emotional stress. My doctor spent several minutes offering very helpful encouragement.

I never cease to be amazed and blessed to Dr. Sellars and his team at my providers.

The provider has a panel patients which is too large. There is overuse of midlevel providers. Follow- up care for complicated medical conditions is inadequate.

10/09/2017
Dr. Sellars was very thorough with answers and asked if I had any questions. I was "at ease" with this appointment.

10/09/2017
I always feel better physically & emotionally after my visit.

09/29/2017
my appointment was on Monday and the previous Saturday I had stepped on a nail. Dr. Sellars had a wound care nurse clean and bandage my foot and make a follow-up appointment for that following Friday. So this was a very good experience for me and just one of the many reasons I appreciate Providence and their system

The MA never introduced herself and did not wash her hands after using computer and before checking my vital signs. Seldom does anyone seem to wash hands, it's kind of disgusting. Don't think that person who answers the phone (not a triage nurse) should be giving medical advice about whether a condition should be seen in office or whether a simple lab test is all that is needed. This happened to me recently and the person was a receptionist, not a medical person at all. She actually argued with me about what was needed and it was not her place to do so.

09/09/2017
Office staff tried to limit access to provider by 'downgrading' exam appointment to seeing a certified nurse practitioner. After my discussions with staff, my long time scheduled appt. (4 months) was rescheduled for the next day after original was cancelled by office staff.

I am extremely pleased with my provider--best doctor I've ever had in my 70 years. Always pleasant, encouraging, listening, giving helpful information, answering questions I have, takes the needed time without seeming hurried, easy to talk with, and stays on top of my conditions.

This provider appears to have too many patients. The clinic staff repeatedly makes prescription mistakes to the extent I am considering looking for a provider OTHER THAN PROVIDENCE. I am sincerely concerned about my potential care if I developed a serious health problem. Problem is that I don't know where else to turn. The system for providing care employed at the Newberg clinic is NOT working!

I always look forward to visits with Dr. Sellars. He sees both me and my husband and we've come to see him as a friend of the family. We don't see him socially but he's such a good guy--we couldn't ask for a better doctor.

Dr. Sellars really cares. Not only about physical heath but well being and how others of life pertain to the physical. I am so blessed to have him as my care provider. I also want to say that although the office didn't contact me personally with my lab results they were on MYChart so I did get them. Thank you!

It seems like more time is spent making sure the "after visit summary" is prepared than is warranted. I would appreciate having that time spent on my problems and getting to know me. In my case, the prescription I needed was prepared in such a way as to cause me considerable time and stress getting it corrected. This is a problem which has been repeated on a majority of my prescriptions over the past year. I have seen several physicians during this time and the prescription problem seems common to all of them. You have a serious communications disconnect in the area of prescriptions, which in my case has resulted in more than one anxiety attack and has had a strong negative impact on my trust in the Clinic in general. Also, doctors seem to be taking on too many patients. When a patient selects a "primary care doctor" there is little chance of being able to establish a meaningful relationship with that doctor when, more often than not, the patient is directed to a Physicians Assistant (PA) because the doctor is too busy. I have have nothing but respect for PAs however they should be ASSISTING the doctor and not be forced into the roll of REPLACING the doctor.

Super busy because of back up from "snow-days". I took that into consideration but waited 25 minutes in waiting rm., 15 in exam room. Took a urine sample at beginning of appt. No results when Dr. was in rm. After waiting another 10 min. went and found the nurse or MA to get hear the results. The appt was at 8:15a left at 9:45. Late for work!! Would have appreciated a "heads-up" as to them being so far behind.

Dr Sellars does a great job at listening and looking at things in a very realistic way. I don't have negative things to say about him. I will say that trying to speak to someone in the office gets extremely frustrating. I understand that they are busy but that whole process shouldn't be so difficult!

Dr Sellers is the only primary care doctor out of the 4 I have seen that I would want as my primary doctor care doctor. He is far better than any of the others. I have only seen Doctor Sellers twice so my opinion iis based on only those visits in addition to a strong recommendation from another doctor friend of mine (now retired). I would not expect my opinion to change.
