Biography & Education

To Claudia Leonard, M.D., an important part of taking good care of her patients is encouraging them to take good care of themselves. “I strive to teach patients about their health or illness, and to involve them in making good decisions about their care,” she says. She also emphasizes the importance of treating each patient with respect and concern.

A graduate of Harvard University and Harvard Medical School, Dr. Leonard completed her internal medicine residency at Beth Israel Hospital in Boston. Before joining the Department of Medicine faculty practice, she worked as the chief medical officer and sole physician for a 45-bed hospital in Kenya. She is board-certified in internal medicine.

In her free time, Dr. Leonard enjoys hiking and skiing with her husband and their three children.

Patient Ratings and Comments
About Our Survey

The Patient Rating score is based on responses given during the CAHPS Patient Experience Survey. Responses are measured on a 10-point scale, with 10 being the best score. These scores are then translated to a 5-point scale in order to display results in a 5-star rating. Comments are also gathered from the same survey and displayed in their entirety with the exception of any language that may be considered slander, libel or contain private health information, which will be removed prior to publishing the comments. These comments are the views and opinions of patients and are not endorsed by or necessarily reflect the views of Providence.

I have a long history w/ Claudia - she is caring, competent, kind & professional. She listens well & treats me well.

I am 74, and Dr. Leonard is the best physician I have had.

I have been seeing this dr. for many years. She knows and genuinely cares for my well being. Excellent doctor.

*Dr. Leonard is the best doctor I have ever had! She is very busy so I would not refer any to her at this time.

I'm very grateful to have such a good doctor!!

some event delayed my appointment by almost 45 minutes. this was unusual

Dr. Leonard has always shown great insight and concern with me as her patient. [...] She answers questions openly and honestly and tells me why she gave the answer she did. I trust her with my care and she has been there for me for the past 17 years. I would be heartbroken if I had to switch from her for any reason! Dr. Leonard is the best!!!

All of my experiences during my visit on [...] were positive and pleasant.

I appreciate Dr. Leonard's personalized approach in talking with me about health, aging, alternatives, and other topics; she does not speak to me as a middle age woman, but as an individual.

Provide listen to my medical problem I have. Give suggestion, explain the [...] medication & answers the question.

Dr. is always able & willing to do more, go the extra mile, and the like.

Dr. Leonard is gracious, kind, and understanding at every visit.

Dr. Leonard was very good. She gave to me a lot of attention.

Dr. Leonard is wonderful! I have seen her for many, many years and always look forward to my appointments.

Dr. Leonard has always been very concerned, well-informed about my health, and very responsive.

the medical resident who started the exam was very concise and thorough. I was disappointed the referral appointment to rheumatology requires a 3 1/2 wait.
