Biography & Education

As a child who was often a medical patient, Dr. Shannon Fife wanted to become a doctor so that she could help people. She has always loved science and learning about the human body and how it works. In particular, she chose to specialize in obstetrics and gynecology because she enjoys taking care of women and their families and building relationships with them over generations. “I love how within my practice I am able to deliver a baby, offer a teenager’s first interaction with a gynecologist, perform surgery, manage pain and menstrual issues, support a patient transitioning through menopause, and even diagnose and care for a patient with uterine cancer,” she says. “And most rewarding is that I can continue relationships with all these patients through routine wellness exams and when they have recovered from illness or injury.”

Dr. Fife emphasizes prevention and screening as a foundation in her practice, as well as education so patients understand their care options. She values partnership with her patients, helping them decide the best, most effective treatment plan that is least invasive while meeting their goals and needs. What she loves most about her role is obstetric care. “Even after delivering thousands of babies,” she says, “I still love that moment when the new parents see their new baby for the first time. I don’t think that will ever get old.”

Dr. Fife earned her medical degree from Des Moines University Osteopathic Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa, and completed her residency with Aultman Hospital in Canton, Ohio.

Originally from Montana (along with her husband), Dr. Fife enjoys outdoor activities and watching her two daughters play sports and ride horses.

Patient Ratings and Comments
About Our Survey

The Patient Rating score is based on responses given during the CAHPS Patient Experience Survey. Responses are measured on a 10-point scale, with 10 being the best score. These scores are then translated to a 5-point scale in order to display results in a 5-star rating. Comments are also gathered from the same survey and displayed in their entirety with the exception of any language that may be considered slander, libel or contain private health information, which will be removed prior to publishing the comments. These comments are the views and opinions of patients and are not endorsed by or necessarily reflect the views of Providence.

I was initially unsure as to whether or not I would like this provider. I quickly changed my mind. She was empathetic and concerned with the fact that I was missing work. After surgery I think she was more excited than I was that she was able to help with my pain.

Dr. Fife is one of the most truly caring doctors. I have a very sensitive surgery coming up and she has made me feel completely comfortable and understanding of what should be done. I really appreciate a dr that actually listens to me!

It would have been nice for provider to include my spouse more in the conversation; especially since we were meeting the provider for the first time. The provider answered all my questions, but my spouse felt left out in appointment.

Provider answered all of my questions and is very easy to talk to.

I specifically sought out Dr Fife because she seems to have a science-based approach to medicine but is also very caring and passionate about what she does.

I like Shannon Fife. [...]

Extended availability for urgent need. Comprehensive evaluation, not rushed. Compassionate care.

I felt cared about with her. she did not look at me like I was making my pain up. That really touched me. Truly thankful to have net her.

It took 4 weeks to schedule my surgical procedure. During this time I called and even stopped in since it seemed so long. My issue is not pressing but I would suggest that your team give a patient the heads up to say "Your surgeon does this part-time; your issue should be handled within 3 months; do not be concerned if it takes up to [...] (elapsed time) to get back to you to schedule this appointment.

Dr Fife has been wonderful and so easy to talk to. She is very understanding and compassionate. I feel like I can be very open with her with my feelings, good or bad and she is not judgmental. Thank you.
