Providence Psychiatric Dialectical Behavior Outpatient Therapy Program

Providence Psychiatric Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) offers an effective, evidence-based approach to helping people better manage their behavior and emotions. Blending Eastern and Western methods, DBT teaches important life skills: mindfulness, interpersonal effectiveness, emotion regulation and distress tolerance.

  • DBT begins with 60-minute individual evaluation sessions, which are typically held weekly from one to four weeks.
  • Following the initial evaluation, a patient will attend 50-minute individual therapy sessions and DBT Skills Training Group weekly.
  • A 90-minute DBT Skills Training Group is available only at Providence Portland Medical Center.
  • DBT patients are usually in the program from six to 12 months.
