Your hospice care team partners with your regular caregivers—usually family, friends or paid caregivers—to provide the following services:

(Services are based on your customized care plan. Not all services are available in all locations)

  • Support at home from an interdisciplinary team that includes doctors and nurse practitioners certified in hospice and palliative medicine, nurses, aides, social workers, pharmacists, chaplains, volunteers, and bereavement-support staff
  • Medically necessary equipment and supplies related to hospice care, such as hospital beds, special reclining chairs, and adaptations for the shower, bedroom, and home
  • Medication and supplies related to your hospice care
  • Access to a hospice nurse twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week
  • Home and personal support from a certified hospice aide, that may include help with bathing, light housekeeping, or tasks assigned to support your hospice nurse’s care
  • Collaboration and care planning with your current medical providers and facility staff, if available
  • Emotional and spiritual support and the opportunity for you to maintain control of your life and your decisions
  • Support with navigating the financial tasks and paperwork involved with end of life
  • Complementary therapies, such as music, acupuncture, animal-assisted activities, and massage
  • Help with your pets from hospice volunteers (Pet Peace of Mind)

Hospice support extends to family members and other loved ones. This support may include the following:

  • Education - Information on how to help care for loved ones and what to expect as illness progresses.
  • Emotional support - Having someone to talk to who has special training in how to deal with difficult questions and feelings that may arise during this crucial stage of life
  • Grief support - Support starts during hospice care and extends for thirteen months after a loved one has passed
  • Respite care - Breaks for family caregivers caring for loved ones at home. Respite care is available upon advance notice and by request and is provided in facilities contracted with Providence Hospice.
