Inflammatory bowel disease, or IBD, is a chronic inflammation in the digestive or gastrointestinal (GI) tract. The main types of IBD are ulcerative colitis and Crohn’s disease. Ulcerative colitis causes chronic inflammation and ulcers in the lining of the colon and rectum. Crohn’s disease typically causes chronic inflammation in the lining and wall of the small intestine and sometimes in the colon, rectum and anus.
