Special study-lung cancer

Expected survival for non-small cell lung cancer is much lower than for other cancers, but survival outcomes for lung cancer patients at Providence Portland and Providence St. Vincent medical centers are strong compared to national statistics.

The 5-year survival rates at both Providence hospitals are better than or equal to survival data compiled from the National Cancer Database (NCDB) for stages I, III and IV lung cancers diagnosed between 2003 and 2006 (most recent available NCDB data).

A comparison of hospital treatment data shows patients at Providence Portland and Providence St. Vincent are treated similarly to patients nationally, except in single treatment methods where Providence patients are more likely to receive radiation therapy alone. More.
