Providence Cancer Center reaches out to the communities we serve throughout Oregon and southwest Washington, hosting education, screening and prevention events. While we focus on a range of cancer types and reach many different audiences, our No. 1 goal is always the same – to help community members understand more about cancer, conduct life-saving screenings, and provide follow-up resources as needed to those who received screenings.
Reaching disparate populations
We screened more than 350 people in 2012 – for oral, head and neck cancers; for breast and cervical cancers; and for skin cancer – representing a 37 percent increase in screening numbers compared to 2011. A major targeted focus in 2012 outreach was in the Asian-American community in the Portland metro area.
Helping rural communities
Providence Cancer Center experts visited rural community providers throughout the state – in Coos Bay, Medford, Klamath Falls, Gold Beach, Lebanon, Salem, eastern Oregon and the north coast area – to provide information and education about specialized cancer services and program updates. We also encouraged local providers participate in various tumor boards at Providence Cancer Center as a way of fostering greater collaboration and bringing additional expertise to outlying areas.
Our community partners
