The big day is here. You're at the hospital to deliver your baby. Who is there for you? Your Providence care team – which includes a nurse midwife, a registered nurse and a doula. Your husband, partner or other family members are welcome to participate, too, depending on your individual preference.
Your Providence team strives to provide continuous labor support during your stay. Studies show women with continuous labor support are less likely to have a cesarean birth, less likely to use synthetic oxytocin to speed labor along and are generally more satisfied with their birth experience.* The C-section rate for Pregnancy Care Package patients is 20 percent, compared to the national average of 31 percent.
Your Providence care team honors your birth preferences – and that includes pain management. We offer a full range of pain management options, including epidurals, to accommodate your needs and desires.
If you're considering a vaginal birth after cesarean (VBAC), our nurse midwives can help you understand the benefits and risks, help in your decision making and support you through your labor and ensure you have a safe delivery. 75-80 percent of Pregnancy Care Package patients who have a trial of labor after cesarean (TOLAC) deliver vaginally.
"I was so pleased with my experience at PPMC (Providence Portland Medical Center). All of the staff, doula, midwives and nurses, exceeded my expectations and gave me the confidence I needed in labor. I would recommend PPMC and the services of MCC (Providence Maternal Care Clinic) a million times over."
"The nurse, doula and midwife who helped me deliver were amazing, it would have been nearly impossible without them."
"We loved the nursing staff at the hospital (and, of course, the clinic staff). Our room had a beautiful view and a couch big enough for my husband to sleep on. We felt very confident about the medical care."
