Orthopedists treat injuries and diseases of your body's musculoskeletal system. This includes your bones, joints, ligaments, tendons, muscles and nerves. The musculoskeletal system allows you to move and stay active. Orthopedists care for patients of all ages, from newborns with clubfeet to young athletes requiring arthroscopic surgery and older people with arthritis.
What do orthopedists do?
Orthopedists can treat many musculoskeletal conditions without surgery, using medication, exercise, and other rehabilitative or alternative therapies. Most orthopedic conditions and injuries have multiple forms of treatment. If necessary, your provider may also recommend surgery if you do not respond well to other treatments.
