Neonatal Intensive Care Units (NICU)

If issues emerge during pregnancy or delivery, our intensive care nurseries care for the special needs of your baby.

Each infant has individual needs that require specific treatment plans. This is why each of our newborn patients is assigned a personal NICU team, consisting of: their primary physician; specialty physicians as necessitated by the infant's medical condition; an occupational therapist/physical therapist; a social worker and discharge planner, a primary bedside nurse and any additional personnel.

Our entire neonatal teams ensure that parents are able to be involved in all aspects of their newborn's care, such as holding, feeding, changing diapers and bathing as their baby's condition improves.

As a parent or caregiver, you will have 24-hour access to your baby and are able to visit your baby as often as you wish. In order to ensure the best care for all our babies, we ask that all visitors to the NICU must do a 3-minute scrub prior to entering the NICU and that certain health guidelines be met.

  • Multi-bed and fully-equipped units for premature and high-risk babies.
  • Giraffe bassinets: These high-tech bassinets are temperature and light controlled, and allow for surgeries be performed as needed within them, limiting the need to transfer the baby and expose them to potential harm.
  • Kangaroo care: skin-to-skin method of contact between infants and their parents to enhance bonding. As soon as an infant is stable enough to come out of the Giraffe, parents can enjoy some quiet, quality time with their new infants in a comfortable, private setting.
  • Follow-up care: Our follow up care programs are for newborns who may have additional needs as they grow from infants to toddlers. Specialists evaluate the infant's physical, neurological and emotional growth during the first three years of life. Our teams collaborate directly with the baby's pediatrician to promote continuity of care through these crucial first years.
