Laser lead extraction

A laser lead extraction is the laser technique removal of one or more leads from inside the heart. Extractions are done for a variety of reasons including: the leads are not working properly;  over time, the leads for these devices may become infected or fractured and may need to be removed and replaced; or as cardiac pacing technology evolves, physicians may wish to upgrade a patient’s existing device with a newer, more effective one.

Pacemaker or implantable cardioverter defibrillator (ICD) delivers energy to the heart muscle through wires called leads.
