New division chief of medicine announced for Providence St. Vincent

I am very pleased to announce that Scott Marsal, M.D., FACP, will be our new division chief of medicine at Providence St. Vincent Medical Center.
Dr. Marsal has extensive experience training medical residents and leading quality initiatives. He has been on the medical staff at Providence Portland since 2004. Previously, he served as a hospitalist at NW Permanente and the VA Medical Center, where he was also clinical director for short stay and diagnostics units.
In his new role, Dr. Marsal will be accountable for leadership and oversight of hospital quality, medical staff services and relevant medical staff departments as well as integrating system, service area, clinical program and hospital objectives into the provision of quality and safe patient care.
Dr. Marsal did his undergraduate work at the University of Michigan and is a graduate of The Ohio State University College of Medicine. He’s currently completing a master’s degree in health care quality and patient safety from Northwestern University’s Kellogg School and Feinberg School of Medicine. Dr. Marsal is also an affiliate associate professor at OHSU.
As previously announced, Steven Freer, M.D., FACP, our chief medical officer in the Oregon Region, will remain active at Providence St. Vincent in medical staff and graduate medical education leadership as the Isidor Brill Professor and Chair in the Department of Medicine.
