Sensory Processing Disorders: Strategies for Home and School

Lisa Porter, MOT, OTR/L is an occupational therapist, and the owner/director of Sensory KIDS. She has advanced training in the Sensory Integration and Praxis Test, Integrated Listening Systems, Yoga Calm, SOS Feeding Approach and DIR/Floortime. Lisa is mentored by Drs. Lucy J. Miller and Sarah Schoen at the SPD Foundation (SPDF) in Denver, as well as being on faculty there.

This free lecture will provide a brief review of sensory processing and regulatory disorders, and how they may impact a child's function. We will discuss and create unique common-sense strategies for home and school, including:

  • Creation of a sensory lifestyle for your child (using Dr. Lucy J. Miller's A SECRET model)
  • Discussion of the importance of play for self-regulation and social-emotional development
  • The use co-regulation as a tool to support your child (and yourself)
