Augmentative Communication in the Home: Tips to being a successful communicator

Bethany Bertoti, MS, CCC-SLP, is a pediatric speech-language pathologist at Providence Children's Development Institute. Bethany is certified by the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association and has an extensive background in augmentative and alternative communication.

Bethany will share how to:

  • Use low to high tech tools in a variety of settings
  • Identify at least three daily routines a communication system can be easily integrated into
  • Recognize communication vs. “testing”
  • Integrate any system a child uses into the home and community

This two-hour course is geared for parents, families, caregivers and home-based speech and occupational therapists to learn basic techniques for integrating a child’s communication system—from low-tech to high-tech speech-generating devices—into daily life without creating added stress. This course is not a training program for specific devices or systems.
