*Founded in 2005, the CUNNIFF-DIXON FOUNDATION exists to enrich the doctor-patient relationship near the end of life, and the HASTINGS CENTER, founded in 1969, is a bioethics research institute that has done groundbreaking work on end-of-life decision-making. THE HASTINGS CENTER CUNNIFF-DIXON PHYSICIAN AWARD is given to one senior, one mid-career, and three early-career physicians annually. The selection process for this prize is overseen by Duke University Divinity School’s Program in Medicine, Theology, and Culture. Only 34 physicians in the US have received this award since its inception in 2009.
