Child laying in hospital bed

Parents are encouraged to stay when their child is in our PICU and have 24/7 access to our locked and secured units. Parents are part of their child’s care team and we work in partnership with you to ensure your child receives the very best care. We also realize not every parent is able to visit daily and encourage you to let us know how we can help you and your family throughout your child’s stay.

If your child needs to be hospitalized, our children’s inpatient care unit has been designed with children in mind to provide specialized care in a family-friendly environment. It includes:

  • Private, spacious rooms with a bed for parents/guardians
  • In-room meal service for child and parents/guardians
  • Onsite cafeteria, coffee shop and gift shop
  • Parent/guardian lounge with fridge, water, coffee and snacks
  • A designated meeting area for families
  • A playroom where kids can be kids
  • Toys and activities that can be brought into patient rooms
  • Child-friendly artwork
  • Separate treatment rooms to preserve your child’s hospital room as a “safe” zone
  • A Pediatric Intensive Care Unit should your child need a higher-level of care
  • Specialized equipment to care for children and do our best to keep you child comfortable

Before your child goes home, we review instructions for home care, transportation, medications, physical/speech/occupational therapy, and follow-up appointments. We want you to be comfortable with all aspects of your child’s home care and encourage you to ask questions.

We are experts in caring for children and their families. Our pediatric team includes:

  • Pediatric hospitalists and intensivists: These physicians are in the hospital 24 hours a day, seven days a week to care for routine and urgent medical needs. These doctors communicate with your child’s primary doctor during hospitalization. Our intensivists are specially trained to monitor and care for children in critical or unstable condition. After hospitalization, hospitalists send all reports from your child’s stay to their primary doctor.
  • Pediatric nurses: Our nationally certified pediatric nurses have the special training and expertise to care for and support hospitalized children and their families 24 hours a day.
