Hospitals earn joint replacement certification

Providence Portland and Providence St. Vincent medical centers have earned The Joint Commission Disease-Specific Certification for hip and knee replacement.

The designation is based on demonstrated excellence in joint replacements. Criteria include:

  • Compliance with consensus-based national benchmarks
  • Consistent use of appropriate, evidence-based clinical practices for joint replacement
  • Collection and analysis of at least four performance measures, two of which are clinical

Providence's two Portland-area hospitals demonstrated excellence in all three standards. Our skilled specialists perform more than 3,000 joint replacements a year. This experience has led to a low rate of complications and readmissions, shorter hospital stays and a high percentage of patients discharged home.

Providence Total Joint Program, part of Providence Orthopedic Institute, offers a "continuum of care" that guides the patient from pre-surgery through recovery and rehabilitation.

This integrated model involves the patient's primary care provider, surgeons, nurses, physician assistants, rehabilitation specialists and clinical support staff – each of whom takes part in the patient’s tailored treatment plan.
