Biography

Dr. Jonathan Vinson entered the field of family medicine for the opportunity to build long-term relationships with families through all phases of life. “I treat patients of all ages, but I especially enjoy obstetrics because pregnancy, birth and child-rearing are such intense and transformative episodes in our lives,” he says.

In his practice, Dr. Vinson considers his most important role to be providing accurate and complete information so that his patients can make informed decisions.

After earning his medical degree from the Emory University School of Medicine in Atlanta, Dr. Vinson completed his residency in family medicine at Oregon Health & Science University.
He serves in the Oregon Air National Guard as a flight surgeon. In his spare time, Dr. Vinson enjoys competitive cycling, skiing and hiking with his wife and two children.

  • Six things your doctor needs to know For Dr. Vinson, the big picture is the one he wants – and needs – to see. “In family medicine, we try to treat the whole person and take the entire context into account,” he says. “Some things may seem irrelevant, but they may have a lot to do with the trouble at hand.” Everything that is happening outside the exam room – your lifestyle habits, the medications you’re taking, the struggles you’re facing in your workplace or at home – is part of this context. It’s not that your doctor finds the details of your personal life titillating, Dr. Vinson says. It’s that more information helps connect the dots.

Patient Ratings and Comments
About Our Survey

The Patient Rating score is based on responses given during the CAHPS Patient Experience Survey. Responses are measured on a 10-point scale, with 10 being the best score. These scores are then translated to a 5-point scale in order to display results in a 5-star rating. Comments are also gathered from the same survey and displayed in their entirety with the exception of any language that may be considered slander, libel or contain private health information, which will be removed prior to publishing the comments. These comments are the views and opinions of patients and are not endorsed by or necessarily reflect the views of Providence.

I'm very pleased w/the quality of care that I have received over the years, because it has been excellent. However, since my auto accident, the communication has devolved somewhat. I disagree with the diagnosis and I don't think that the level of pain I'm in has been given the attention needed. For 1 yr. I have been dealing with excruciating pain. Dr. Vinson does not care to prescribe pain medications, as I do not care to take them; but I do not believe, that in the year 2017, that there is no recourse for me to deal with my pain level. For these reasons I request a second opinion. Excellent doctor, I firmly disagree with his assessment of my condition.

Everything is good...the only issue I have is that certain medications lead to more medications [...] But overall experience good; however, I need to explain that I don't want to be on these medications over a year: just to add more medications [...]

In the few times I have seen Dr. Vincent, he has listened intently to my concerns, put my best interest first, provided and explained options for my care and treated my family like his family. I will most definitely go to him for care in the future. My husband and I were blown away by his expertise and people skills.

I had 3 issues I wanted to talk to the doctor about. We talked about 1 of them. He seemed impatient and disinterested. He spent very little time with the (compared to other checkups). He ordered an EKG but didn't explain why . I will probably be scheduling a visit to a different provider to address the things this doctor didn't seem interested in.

I always get feedback on the actual results of x-rays/labs/etc. However, I never get follow-up about what steps to take next to remedy my issues.

I came to Dr. Vinson because my prior PCP wasn't listening to my concerns, just giving me pills that were making me dizzy and refusing to embark on any further diagnostic testing after referring to neurology. Dr. Vinson heard me, got to the heart of my concerns, and ordered appropriate diagnostics for my symptoms as well providing general well care instructions. I left there feeling confident that I was in good hands, that my concerns weren't all in my head or unreasonable. Thank you!

This was my initial visit with Dr Vinson; we had never met before. Dr. Vinson was very helpful in listening to my "medical complaints". He renewed prescriptions for me that were approaching refill dates. He requested lab work be done. He advised me to check back in six months +/-, or before if I had needs or concerns. All of these things helped reduce my stress concerning my current health. He was friendly, and made me feel comfortable talking with him.

Dr. Vinson delivered my first child 4 years ago and I'm very happy for him to deliver my second in 2017. He's very attentive and shows that he cares. The rest of the staff at this hospital is also amazing. Dr. Vinson's nurse was very nice, as was [...], the girlat the counter who checked me in.
