Biography

Dr. Jonathan Vinson entered the field of family medicine for the opportunity to build long-term relationships with families through all phases of life. “I treat patients of all ages, but I especially enjoy obstetrics because pregnancy, birth and child-rearing are such intense and transformative episodes in our lives,” he says.

In his practice, Dr. Vinson considers his most important role to be providing accurate and complete information so that his patients can make informed decisions.

After earning his medical degree from the Emory University School of Medicine in Atlanta, Dr. Vinson completed his residency in family medicine at Oregon Health & Science University.
He serves in the Oregon Air National Guard as a flight surgeon. In his spare time, Dr. Vinson enjoys competitive cycling, skiing and hiking with his wife and two children.

  • Six things your doctor needs to know For Dr. Vinson, the big picture is the one he wants – and needs – to see. “In family medicine, we try to treat the whole person and take the entire context into account,” he says. “Some things may seem irrelevant, but they may have a lot to do with the trouble at hand.” Everything that is happening outside the exam room – your lifestyle habits, the medications you’re taking, the struggles you’re facing in your workplace or at home – is part of this context. It’s not that your doctor finds the details of your personal life titillating, Dr. Vinson says. It’s that more information helps connect the dots.

About Our Survey

The Patient Rating score is based on responses given during the CAHPS Patient Experience Survey. Responses are measured on a 10-point scale, with 10 being the best score. These scores are then translated to a 5-point scale in order to display results in a 5-star rating. Comments are also gathered from the same survey and displayed in their entirety with the exception of any language that may be considered slander, libel or contain private health information, which will be removed prior to publishing the comments.

I asked about a chiropractic referral, got no response to that specifically. Dr. Vinson doesn't seem invested in addressing my medical concern, at least not genuinely.

We hadn't planned on having a hospital birth and were dreading having a birth in the hospital. From the moment we got into the birthing unit until the time we left we felt so special and cared for. Couldn't have asked for a better experience especially when we weren't expecting a good experience.

Everything was fabulous with Dr. Vinson. The front staff needs some help, as there always seems to be a line to check in and people are chatting, etc. But it's never a long wait...either way.

I recently had terrible experiences with two prior care providers. It was such a breath of fresh air to walk in to Dr.Vinson's office. He listened, was invested, knew what he was talking about and was able to deliver it in a way that was easy to understand.

Although the care was satisfactory at the time, I had no idea what to do post-appointment. I was referred to physical therapy; no PT ever called me. I was told to take [...] daily for three weeks; I got home and discovered I'd have to take 9 pills a day - my colleague tells me my doctor should have set up a prescription for a 600 mg dose pill. [...] I'm not sure what I need to do about any of this, which makes me wonder why I even bothered going in the first place.

Dr. Vinson was great. He gave me the time and "ear" for me to advise him about the presenting problem, and he logically mated the historical information with the presenting problem. We came up with a direction to go with testing and medication. I had his full attention the entire visit. Thank you, Jonathan!
