Patient Ratings and Comments
About Our Survey

The Patient Rating score is based on responses given during the CAHPS Patient Experience Survey. Responses are measured on a 10-point scale, with 10 being the best score. These scores are then translated to a 5-point scale in order to display results in a 5-star rating. Comments are also gathered from the same survey and displayed in their entirety with the exception of any language that may be considered slander, libel or contain private health information, which will be removed prior to publishing the comments. These comments are the views and opinions of patients and are not endorsed by or necessarily reflect the views of Providence.

It is taking too long for referrals to a specialist to be completed. When a patient has a chronic disease like MS, it is important to get referrals processed quickly. Also, Providence should review its policy of the need for repeated referrals to the same specialists handling the patient's chronic disease.

I was referred to Dr Smoot by the gal that does my hair... She has her best friend see Dr Smoot so I've been excited to see him for quite a few years but I didn't find him on my insurance prior to [...]. I really like him and I left behind [...] my doctor of 10 years?!

while transitioning from the mother Joe's lab to the east Pavilion office there was some drop in communication. Some office tasks had changed in the responsibility who owned each task. the office manager it has become easier to schedule needed referrals and make appointments and lab tests more attainable.

My PCP did not provide this Dr with the needed information, and his assistant did not check to make sure that said information (labs, MRI images) were available the day of my appointment. So, after waiting a month for my appointment, taking the day off work for 2 people, and driving 2 hours each way, I basically had yet another physical exam, and inconclusive findings. When the physical exam did not match normal MS symptoms, the Dr seemed to pooh-pooh my "case" from then on, even stating "well, this isn't life and death here"... I wonder if he would feel the same way if it were he that were losing his mobility in weekly increments, while waiting to be seen, only to have the medical "system" fail once again...

Dr Smoot is a neurologist specialist who treats me as a whole person not just a neurology problem. He has listened better to me & my wife than any other doctor we've dealt with. He seems to know us better than our regular doctor that we see much more often. Several times he picked up on an important problem that the regular doctor or other specialists missed. As a neurologist, his diagnosis and treatment plan have been perfect over the last 4-5 years building up our confidence and respect for him.

I have been a patient of Dr. Smoot for over 8 years. I always feel comfortable and confident under his care, that he will go to whatever lengths are necessary to make sure I am treated properly. it's difficult having a unique disease that the care protocols are not clearly defined, Dr. Smoot goes above to treat me.

Dr. Smoot is the third neurologist I've seen in connection with MS. He's the only MS specialist of the three and is now the ONLY one I want to see. he listens, explains, talks over possible medications - pros and cons, and is open to my desire to try natural supplements when possible. Dr. Smoot is a great doctor and my only wish would be that he had a clinic in Salem.
