Karen moved to Portland from Madison, Wis., in 2001 where she worked for five years in a sub-acute facility with patients with traumatic brain injuries (TBI). She has worked for Providence since 2001, primarily in an outpatient setting but also has experience in the acute, acute rehabilitation, skilled nursing and home settings. She has been a part of the Providence ALS Clinic team since it began in 2005. Her specialty areas include working with augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) users, as well as patients who have communication, cognitive and/or swallowing impairments as a result of ALS, stroke, TBI or other neurological impairments.
