Kathy Schwab has worked in almost every aspect of her profession: clinical dietician, health and wellness educator, consulting, product development and research writing. She has been the regional manager for Providence Diabetes Education Services for five years.
Asked what she loves about being here, Schwab says, “People with diabetes are often overwhelmed by the diagnosis and can get burned out from having to always pay attention to it. I get great satisfaction from hearing the stories of people who have gotten happier, healthier and in better control [of their diabetes] after going through our program. I am privileged to manage the best group of diabetes educators in Oregon.”
When she’s not working, Schwab enjoys gardening and cooking. Her green thumb lends itself to edibles only – she’s not one to waste time growing plants she can’t eat! She also enjoys hiking in the Columbia Gorge and traveling, especially in Italy.
