Biography

Susan Payne, M.D., believes that establishing a caring and trusting relationship with her patients is her most important role as a primary care provider. “It’s not enough to deliver quality care in and of itself,” she says. “By taking the time to listen and educate my patients, they understand that I care about them receiving the best possible medical advice and attention.”

Board certified in obstetrics and gynecology, Dr. Payne earned her medical degree at the University of California, Irvine College of Medicine. She completed her residency at the University of California, San Diego Medical Center and for five years was a member of the clinical faculty at Stanford University’s School of Medicine in Palo Alto, Calif.

Outside of the office, Dr. Payne enjoys time with her husband, a real estate investment advisor, and their two daughters. She also enjoys long-distance cycling, running and alpine skiing or curling up with a good novel.

About Our Survey

The Patient Rating score is based on responses given during the CAHPS Patient Experience Survey. Responses are measured on a 10-point scale, with 10 being the best score. These scores are then translated to a 5-point scale in order to display results in a 5-star rating. Comments are also gathered from the same survey and displayed in their entirety with the exception of any language that may be considered slander, libel or contain private health information, which will be removed prior to publishing the comments.

Provider very knowledgeable and explains things well. Great attitude, you can definitely tell she cares about her work and her patients. Visit felt rushed and wait time was too long (45 minutes). Otherwise, very pleased with doctor and staff.

It took me a very long time to get an appointment with my regular provider knowing I had complicated issues that required a visit with an MD, my provider was called away to an emergency surgery which I understood, but this required me coming back for another appointment with my provider, who fortunately had an opening in the same week, but, I then I had to take more time off of work to attend the appointment, and am still waiting to receive a referral to a higher level of care with a specialist, which I knew I needed months ago. I feel your clinic does not have the resources available for women of my age who, because they are not having a baby do not get access to a MD in a timely manner.

The nurse [...] understood my situation and understood the questions I asked. I was given help same day almost every time.Dr Susan Payne is by far one of the best providers I've ever had. She truly cared about my situation, and gave me important information as soon as possible. I was not seeing her for the happiest of reasons, and she made me feel very cared for and involved in every stage of my care. Thank you both.

I love Dr. Payne. She is the only reason I put up with the office. Scheduling is horrible. The calendar only available 1-2 mo. in advance is so difficult. She is consistently 1 hour behind schedule. My apt was at 2:15pm. I didn't see the doc until after 3:30. I under ten emergencies happen, but this isn't the first time my appt was so late. It is totally disrespectful of your patients.

Dr. Payne is thoughtful, kind, and is one of the best physicians I've ever encountered. It's rare to find such a dedicated person in any field these days, but I feel fortunate to have her as one of my physicians.

Dr. Payne is the best incarnation of the typically nurturing women's health provider. She listens carefully to my concerns and provides not only great medical advice, but also support for my broader life concerns--job stress, family stress, and the like. She is not imperious with her advice, but starts a broader conversation. I was pleasantly surprised the first time I went to see her, and I looked forward to my second visit. Dr. Payne has the rare gift of being both an excellent doctor and an incredible human being.
