Biography & Education

Kathleen McShane, who joined Providence more than 20 years ago, likes teaching family members how to recognize normal infant behaviors and feeding patterns. She believes this helps provide confidence for the family and enhances their enjoyment of this special time.

After working in the postpartum units, she realized that one of the most important aspects of caring for the family was to help them learn how to care for their infant. She understands this is an exhausting and emotional time for families.

Kathleen enjoys exploring all that the Northwest has to offer and also watches the stock market daily. She and her husband have two children.

Kathleen earned her bachelor’s degree in nursing from the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston. She began her career with a focus on cardiology and cardiovascular surgery in the critical care unit at Texas Medical Center in Houston. Since then, she has enjoyed a wide range of nursing positions, including managing a 20-bed surgical ICU and serving as the assistant director of nursing and a clinical instructor at the University of Portland.
