Dr. Howard received his undergraduate education at Stanford University and Amherst College, where he graduated with honors in biophysics and history. He received a master's degree in biochemistry at the University of Aberdeen, Scotland, and was a research fellow in plant mitochondrial bioenergetics at the University of California, Davis.
After graduating from medical school at Tulane University, he served as a resident in anatomic and clinical pathology at UC Los Angeles, and was chief resident at UC Davis, where he was a fellow in hematopathology prior to joining UCD pathology faculty.
Dr. Howard is director of the Portland Service Area Core Laboratory, PPMC Clinical Laboratory, Providence Milwaukie Hospital laboratory and the Portland Service Area Blood Bank.
