Biography & Education

Dr. Hyrum Durtschi chose to become a family physician because it allows him to interact with everyone from newborn babies to grandparents and to address a variety of medical concerns. He feels privileged to have this opportunity, and enjoys helping his patients better understand and treat their illnesses.

One of his primary goals is to provide his patients with the tools they need to take control of their health. "
I believe strongly that, with positive lifestyle choices, the body is often able to maintain good health without unnecessary intervention," he says.

After earning his medical degree from Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine in Missouri, he completed his internship and residency at Madigan Army Medical Center in Tacoma, Wash.

Dr. Durtschi grew up in the Pacific Northwest. After traveling around the world and working on two other continents, he is excited to call Oregon his home once again. He enjoys spending time with his family outdoors, rain or shine.

Patient Ratings and Comments
About Our Survey

The Patient Rating score is based on responses given during the CAHPS Patient Experience Survey. Responses are measured on a 10-point scale, with 10 being the best score. These scores are then translated to a 5-point scale in order to display results in a 5-star rating. Comments are also gathered from the same survey and displayed in their entirety with the exception of any language that may be considered slander, libel or contain private health information, which will be removed prior to publishing the comments. These comments are the views and opinions of patients and are not endorsed by or necessarily reflect the views of Providence.

Dr. Durtschi is very empathetic and understanding. He is not rushed during the visit. He is knowledgeable in his recommendations.

Could be a little better about getting referral/chart notes to specialist offices when referrals are placed.

Dr. Durtschi is amazing! I have complete confidence in him and have highly recommended him to others. He is always professional and caring. I can't imagine how he could be any better than he is; I feel very fortunate to have him as my doctor.

He went over all meds in depth, which was great--it was good to touch base and see if any changes needed to be made. He also gave me some good advice regarding reproductive health, so he is working in tandem w/ my gynecologist. And, bonus points, he remembered medical difficulties we'd discussed in the past--I'm old school and like to have ongoing relationships w/ my providers. :)

Always considerate and helpful regarding my concerns. Prompt replies to my questions using "my chart" over the past years regarding follow up to my injuries or other conditions

Always a good experience.

Dr. Durtschi always listens to any concerns I have and responds to my needs

care provider is excellent. lab however needs more techs. waited for over an hour to have a simple blood draw....unacceptible!

Dr Durtschi always listens to me before he starts talking. He is a very caring doctor. Makes sure I understand his diagnosis and directions before I leave his office. I would rank him as one of the best physicians I have ever been treated by.

Dr Duretschi is the best. He always remembers my health history whenever I see him. He always listens to my concerns and questions. He always answers my questions completely and in a way I can understand. I always recommend him to my friends because I have never had a better doctor in my 64 years of life.

I have always been satisfied when coming here

Dr. Durtschi has been very good to and for me. I feel he truly cares about my health. He listens and understands what I discuses with him. If he doesn't know the answer my question(s), he will look for it and not ignore the question or make up an answer. I honestly can't think of anything negative about Dr. Durtschi as my care provider. I have never like "going to the doctor", DR. Durtshi makes it easier because he cares.

The patients concerns are of little to no importance to anyone at the office. Everybody at this office seems to prefer passing THEIR responsibilities on to other providers.

Dr. Durtschi is always most courteous & attentive.

Concerns my health and takes very good care of me.

He's attentive, up to date on the latest studies and generally knowledgeable. I've recommended him to multiple people and all have confirmed back the same.

Seemed a little rushed. [...]

I hope to build a long patient-doctor relationship with him, that I can grow old with him. I've had several doctors last year that decided to move on. I'm used to the old idea of the Family Doctor, which I haven't seen in years. I hope he'll want to stay awhile.

Dr. Durtschi is always very clear and honest. His nurses are sweethearts and I love love love [...]. She helps me on the phone and always fixes any problems or gets any questions answered and is caring and hysterical at the same time. She is a gem.

He has exceptionally astute. In the area of listening and paying attention to what I told him, he was one of the best doctors I have seen. How refreshing to see someone who did not make instant assumptions and jump to conclusions without hearing what I was saying.

After open heart surgery earlier this year, the follow-up care has been very good.

Dr. Durtschi Is an awesome doctor!!!!

Listened well

Everything just fine with no complaints!

My Primary Care Physician appears very knowledgeable about my condition and medications. He always takes the time to listen carefully to my questions and concerns. He appears to have compassion for my feelings. He also displays a sense of humor which puts me at ease.

dr durtsche always provides a complete medical analysis and asks pertinent questions. he always enters with a smile and friendly greeting. he does not hesitate to refer me to a specialist as needed. i am happy to have him as my primary care provider and trust his judgement.

My DR. listens to everything I have to talk about and gives very clears answers to my questions.

I have seen countless specialists, gotten multiple MRIs, seen my previous PCPs and been diagnosed with chronic back pain that cannot be fixed even with surgery. However, Dr. Durtschi refuses to provide adequate pain medication as needed even when at higher than normal pain levels. It is very frustrating.

I would like a call explaining my results

He admitted to knowing nothing about the disease I was diagnosed with by my geneticist, and then went on to try to diagnose me with something else that was already ruled out, saying that the diagnosis I received didn't matter because there's no proven treatment. [...] I didn't need to be told that pain medication would lead to addiction. I didn't ask him for pain medication. I left feeling unheard and hopeless. I won't be returning willingly.

great Dr. I have a lot of health issues, some unusual. He is always very attentive to my problems and medical needs.

I get great care, he is the best!

I really like Dr. Durtchi and have established a relationship with him. I think it's important to have a doctor you can talk to and who stays and doesn't move around.

Would appreciate just a little more time with the doctor. We usually have our questions written out, but can't seem to cover all of them.

answered questions honestly, no passing the buck

My appointment was to follow up on an unresolved issue I've been dealing with for a few years. It was also the first time I have seen this MD. It would have been a much better experience had there been more time allowed. I felt very rushed and was unable to fully explain myself.

Dr. D is a very good doctor very respectful it's just his assistant seems to be a little Condon sending when talking to people and I don't appreciate it.

Dr. Durtschi was very understanding of my concerns.

He's a very good listener.

We had to change health plans & we checked to see what plans offered Providence as we wanted to continue with our same Doctor.
