As a teacher and advocate for his patients, Dr. Gerry Dunlap works to help them better understand and navigate health information. “A well-prepared and educated patient is the best advocate for his or her health,” he says. “An effective doctor/patient relationship is one where both parties actively work to improve the health of the patient.”
For Dr. Dunlap, it’s also important to be aware of each patient’s everyday activities so he can create an effective and efficient plan of care. “I try to understand the influences that contribute to a person’s health, such as their hobbies, lifestyle and occupation,” he says.
Dr. Dunlap earned his medical degree from Oregon Health & Science University in Portland. He completed his internship and residency at Providence St. Vincent Medical Center in Portland.
Married and the father of one child, Dr. Dunlap enjoys camp-ing, hiking and fishing in his free time.
