Biography

Laura Donaghu, M.D., believes that every visit with a patient should be a learning experience—for both the patient and herself. “If we listen well to each other, think and make decisions together, the patient-doctor partnership can be a mutually-satisfying and educating experience.”

Though she chose to practice family medicine because of the diversity of people and variety of medical challenges it offers, Dr. Donaghu particularly enjoys caring for women and children. “I feel that my experience as a mother and wife allows me to understand many of the family and parenting issues seen in family practice,” she says.

Board certified in family medicine, Dr. Donaghu earned her medical degree at Oregon Health & Science University and completed her internship and residency at Family Medicine of Southwest Washington in Vancouver, Wash.

Married with three daughters, Dr. Donaghu enjoys running, hiking, knitting and quilting. And, of course, she loves being a mom.

Patient Ratings and Comments
About Our Survey

The Patient Rating score is based on responses given during the CAHPS Patient Experience Survey. Responses are measured on a 10-point scale, with 10 being the best score. These scores are then translated to a 5-point scale in order to display results in a 5-star rating. Comments are also gathered from the same survey and displayed in their entirety with the exception of any language that may be considered slander, libel or contain private health information, which will be removed prior to publishing the comments.

When being passed on to other departments for heart monitor and Echo cardiogram, I never receive a call from those departments. I always have to phone back to my provider's office, get the number and then call over to make my appointment. That feels pretty lame and disconnected to me. Why not just give me that information to begin with, and tell me to make the calls myself if the schedulers in those departments won't ever get in touch with me through the computer system? [...]

It's become exceedingly hard to get an appointment with my primary care provider. I now wait quite a while to see the doctor and now feel rushed through my appointments as if they are way too overbooked.

We love Dr. Donaghu. Both of our kids see her. She has a great bedside manner with kids and parents. I appreciate her knowledge base and how she researches her answer if she's not 100% sure of the latest recommendations. It gives me great confidence in her answers and advice.

the lab tech/medical assistant was out for the day, so I was directed to the main lab for a blood draw. There was a 45 minute wait, so I left and will go back another time to get my blood drawn. Most people don't have that kind of time to wait for a blood draw.

Dr. Donaghu is very caring, and I feel comfortable discussing any health issue with her. She takes the time to listen to my concerns, and she is thorough and knowledgeable. I also appreciate that she quickly referred me to a specialist when we couldn't identify the source of my pain with a few simple tests.

it would be helpful for the nursing assistants to introduce themselves. it would add a nice personal touch to know who is taking my be, temp, etc. since I feel I have a good relationship with my doctor, it'd be nice to expand that a bit.

I spent an hour at home completing the personal & family health history forms, and neither the MA nor the provider looked at my paperwork. I waited 45 minutes to see her. She refused a simple blood test, instead saying I needed specialty care when my pediatrician ordered these tests for one of my kids. I did very much appreciate her eating plan suggestion, and felt that she understood my current food plan choices. She also gave me excellent guidelines to shoot for regarding lab references to keep me off medication. And the lab work she did agree to order was all complimentary and provided a good picture of where I need to focus my health-related efforts.
