Kate Corrigan, PA-C, chose to become a cardiovascular surgery physician assistant because of the heart's complexity and because she enjoys a team-based work environment. "Communication and teamwork are strongly emphasized among the surgical team, nurses and the patient," she says. "This is essential for coordinated patient care."
"What I enjoy most about being a PA is being involved with patient care from the operating room, through recovery, and then seeing them at the post-op clinic," Kate said. "It is wonderful to see the patient's progress at the outpatient visit and get to know their personalities when they are feeling better."
After earning her Bachelor of Science degree in chemistry from Gonzaga University in Spokane, Wash., she completed her master's degree in physician assistant studies from Oregon Health & Science University in Portland.
Born and raised in Portland, Kate married her husband in the summer of 2013. She and her husband purchased a house last year and they are enjoying making it into a home. In her spare time, Kate enjoys spending time with her friends and family and is excited to get a puppy.
