Dr. Burris is a graduate of the University of Kansas School of Medicine. His ophthalmology residency was completed at the Naval Regional Medical Center in Oakland, CA, and at the University of California, San Francisco.
Dr. Burris performed a research and clinical fellowship in Cornea and External Disease and Refractive Surgery at the McGee Eye Institute of the University of Oklahoma. He also served four years as Chief of the Cornea Service for the Northern Pacific rim at the Naval Hospital in Oakland, California. Afterward Dr. Burris served four years as Founder and Chief of the Cornea Service at Devers Eye Institute and also founded the Lions Eye Bank of Oregon Vision Research Laboratory. He continues as a Co-Medical Director of the Lions Eye Bank of Oregon (Lions Vision Gift) in Portland.
Dr. Burris founded Northwest Corneal Services in 1990 where he continues his professional consultation practice. He is also Adjunct Clinical Associate Professor of Ophthalmology at Oregon Health & Science University, Casey Eye Institute.
