Biography

Amber Bowell believes her most important role as a physician assistant is to be a great listener, advocate and educator to all her patients. "I enjoy the interaction with people and treasure the relationships that are formed," she says. "I find joy in helping my patients achieve their health goals."

After earning her Bachelor of Liberal Arts degree in foreign language and literature-Spanish from Colorado State University, she went on to receive her Master of Science Physician Assistant degree from Quinnipiac University in Connecticut. She is certified by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants. During rotations at Quinnipiac, she had a special emphasis in dermatology and infectious disease.

Amber joins Providence from Middlesex Hospital in Durham, Conn., where she worked in primary care for several years and volunteered providing medical care to migrant farm workers.

Amber was born in Nebraska and was raised on a farm until her family moved to Colorado when she was a teenager. She now calls the Pacific Northwest home with her husband, twin boy and girl and two cats. In her free time she enjoys running, yoga, travelling and being outdoors. She is fluent in Spanish.

On each occasion that I have met with Amber, she has always been wonderful in all respects. She is professional and courteous, an excellent listener, she asks relevant questions, then takes all aspects into account to diagnose. I am not an individual that likes going to the doctor in general, however, Amber makes every appointment an enjoyable one. I am very grateful to her exceptional services and knowledge.

This was a great experience and I really liked Dr. Bowell. she was caring and very thorough and got me in right away for additional needed tests. I needed an ultrasound and by the time I got to my car they were calling me to schedule. She also was quick to call me with test results and to schedule some further appointments. This is the best experience I have ever had with a Dr. and I can't say enough good about the Providence system. I have already referred 2 friends.

I'm completely satisfied with Amber and Ms. [...]. I live half a year here in Oregon, half a year in [...]. I greatly prefer doctoring here in Oregon with the Providence system of providers. Always friendly and helpful. I have never had a problem getting in when I needed to.

My last visit on [...] was due to mild abdomen pain on right side. I was able to get a same day appointment and treatment or advice received was immediately helpful with pain subsiding within a day or two. My experience at Providence Bridgeport has always been good; whether seeing Amber, have blood work done, urgent care visit, etc., etc. By far, this is the best medical option I've ever had and I would recommend the Bridgeport facility to anyone.

The only complaint I have is regarding the test results. They were provided to me via mychart and I still don't understand them. [...] I had asked Amber if I could get my blood drawn in a few months rather than this month or next as she had wanted and I never received a reply via my chart. I just wish the communication were better and more open AFTER leaving the doctors office. I am going to have to call in sometime to make sure I can still get my labs done in a few months..

I am new to the Providence team [...]. I was surprised at the time and attention that my new provider gave me for my overall annual check up. It has been many years since I have had a PCP and been within a somewhat enclosed network where all my information is shared with my various providers - I love it! The follow up after my appointment was thorough and timely.
