Biography & Education

R. Bryan Bell, M.D., DDS, FACS, is a Texas native with special expertise in the surgical treatment of benign and malignant tumors of the head and neck area. His practice includes treating tumors of the oral cavity (mouth), pharynx (throat), sinuses, orbit, skull base and salivary glands as well as tumors of the skin, soft tissues and bones.

Dr. Bell is the medical director of Providence Oral, Head and Neck Cancer Program at Providence Cancer Center. The program's multidisciplinary team of more than 20 specialists includes head and neck surgeons, otolaryngologists, oral and maxillofacial surgeons, radiation oncologists, medical oncologists, reconstructive microvascular surgeons, oral pathologists, and dentists.

Members of the team work together to develop treatment plans for each of our head and neck cancer patients that incorporate the latest technology and most advanced surgical techniques, including minimally invasive surgery, laser surgery, robotic surgery, 3-D computer planning with intraoperative navigation and nonsurgical cancer therapies.

Dr. Bell's clinical interests are focused on head and neck oncologic surgery and reconstructive cranio-maxillofacial surgery, with a particular emphasis on oral and oropharyngeal tumors, orbital surgery and skull base surgery.

He has pioneered technological advances in the field of 3-D computer planning and intraoperative guidance to achieve optimal oncologic and reconstructive outcomes. He is one of the few U.S. surgeons with extensive experience with sentinel lymph node biopsy for oral cancer, and was among the first surgeons on the west coast to perform transoral robotic surgery (TORS) for head and neck cancer.

Dr. Bell's current research endeavors are focused on a collaboration with translational immunologists at the Earle A. Chiles Research Institute in the Providence Cancer Center to develop innovative treatment strategies that trigger the immune system to fight oral, head and neck cancer.

Dr. Bell has lectured extensively to national and international audiences and his work has been published in more than 100 scientific articles and textbook chapters. He has received numerous honors and has been chosen by his peers as one of Portland Monthly magazine's best head and neck/oral and maxillofacial surgeons.

Patient Ratings and Comments
About Our Survey

The Patient Rating score is based on responses given during the CAHPS Patient Experience Survey. Responses are measured on a 10-point scale, with 10 being the best score. These scores are then translated to a 5-point scale in order to display results in a 5-star rating. Comments are also gathered from the same survey and displayed in their entirety with the exception of any language that may be considered slander, libel or contain private health information, which will be removed prior to publishing the comments.

I have nothing but good experiences with this care provider & have recommended him.

the first point of contact is [...]. she is excellent at her position, but goes beyond with her level of concern and caring for me as a patient. her understanding of what I was going through makes her exceptional. there are really no words to express the compassion that I sense from her when she is working with me. she is a breath of fresh air when dealing with and navigating through illness. she is a wonderful asset to providence. I am forever grateful for her assistance.

Good always.

Dr Bell is a wonderful physician , he's kind, empathetic and knowledgable

dr. Bell was phenomenal and the staff here was excellent

Dr. Bell is the best!!

It is always nice to see Dr Bell.

Had to wait over an hour past our scheduled appointment time.

Dr. Bell is very thorough & helpful w/any questions.

I've always had the best care under this provider. Have already recommended him to others.

A male (Dr.?) assistant to Dr. Bell was very helpful and comforting before Dr. Bell came in which I appreciated.

Requested more than once that a cat scan was ordered before next visit in a 3 month time span. Test was ordered 3 weeks before the office visit, for a check up, and the results were not in before the date of seeing the doctor. Was told the doctor was making an exception to see me anyway. Still have not been contacted with the results. Doctor visit was almost 3 weeks ago at this point.

I thought Dr. Bell was excellent!

Dr. Bell is absolutely fantastic.

All my time spent with Dr. Bell and his staff was very informative & pleasant.

I have had nothing but the best of care from my provider, Dr. Bell. He has always taken the time to be personally interested in my health and well being as it relates to my health issues. I've nothing but good things to say.

I have always found Dr. Bell and his staff to be very professional, caring and knowledgeable.

I did not see Dr. Bell after surgery more than once - only others in the office. I would like to have had more input from him post surgery.

My experience with Dr. Bell and the people who work with him has been consistently outstanding. We feel fortunate to be under their care.

Dr Bell and group very professional!
