Biography

Holly Barker, M.D., knew as a toddler what she wanted to be when she grew up. She announced to her mother at the age of 2 that she was going to be a doctor.

At 8 years, she participated in a medical mentorship program and watched a video of open heart surgery. She was hooked and knew from that day forward she wanted to be a surgeon.

Dr. Barker received her medical degree at Wake Forest School of Medicine in Winston-Salem, N.C. and completed her residency at Wayne State University School of Medicine, Detroit Medical Center. This was followed by a fellowship in minimally invasive surgery at the Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University in Providence, R.I.

"Surgery can be scary for patients. I try to approach every patient the way I would my own family: gently, confidently and with thorough explanations to erase as many question marks as possible," says Dr. Barker.

When not practicing medicine, she enjoys kayaking, reading, traveling and hiking with her dogs.

About Our Survey

The Patient Rating score is based on responses given during the CAHPS Patient Experience Survey. Responses are measured on a 10-point scale, with 10 being the best score. These scores are then translated to a 5-point scale in order to display results in a 5-star rating. Comments are also gathered from the same survey and displayed in their entirety with the exception of any language that may be considered slander, libel or contain private health information, which will be removed prior to publishing the comments.

Holly Barker's office called me to schedule my one year follow up colonoscopy just as she said she would do. My appointment was made efficiently as was my visit and the scheduling of my colonoscopy. Dr. Barker is an excellent doctor as is her staff. Providence is efficient with excellent customer service and good billing processes.

In my experience anywhere, an outstanding physician is a rarity. Holly Barker is of that rare quality. I wish I could see her for more of my medical needs. She is friendly and kind, considers my questions and answers them to the best of her knowledge/experience. She inspires calm and confidence. She does not display a haughty attitude, like some doctors I've met. She is very approachable and sensitive to my needs as a patient.
