Biography

Frank Barich, M.D., believes his most important role as a physician is to be an "educator and health advocate" for his patients. He enjoys educating his patients so they have the knowledge to participate in their health care decisions.

In his practice, he's an active listener and likes getting to know his patients. "I pay attention to my patients' health histories, so I can give them the personalized attention they want," he says.

Dr. Barich earned his medical degree from the University of Iowa in Iowa City, where he also completed his internship. He went on to complete his residency at Legacy Health System in Portland.

In his free time, Dr. Barich enjoys playing golf, basketball and guitar, and spending time with his family, including his three children.

Patient Ratings and Comments
About Our Survey

The Patient Rating score is based on responses given during the CAHPS Patient Experience Survey. Responses are measured on a 10-point scale, with 10 being the best score. These scores are then translated to a 5-point scale in order to display results in a 5-star rating. Comments are also gathered from the same survey and displayed in their entirety with the exception of any language that may be considered slander, libel or contain private health information, which will be removed prior to publishing the comments. These comments are the views and opinions of patients and are not endorsed by or necessarily reflect the views of Providence.

I also felt that Dr. Barich and his Bethany Clinic team were very good listeners and paid very good attention when I gave them information/feedback. I also got the impression that they functioned very well as a team.

Blood tests were not put in the system on time. I went to the labs a few days after my visit, and after waiting 2 hours to see a phlebotomist, I found out the blood tests were not in the system. This is poor administrative quality.

I am a retired Registered Nurse. Having years of experience with physicians, being with Dr. Barich has been very satisfying. I feel he is highly qualified as an Internist. Beyond that, he is personable, friendly, easy to talk to and willing to take whatever time is necessary to respond to my questions and needs.

GOOD: 1) Doctor listened and answered the questions I asked. The part I liked about him is his will to try different medicines for my sickness which I didn't find at another (Providence) specialist. 2) Quick response from nurses when I requested a prescription by calling in. BAD: 1) Doctor got upset with me right after my physical exam and said "I had so many problems already..." which I never heard from my previous doctors. It happened when I brought up one more sickness that he didn't look or paid attention in my typing report paper I gave to him, and he had to come back after walking out the exam room. 2) The assistant nurse on that day was not nice when I asked her to show me how to register and use "my chart" which I never had experience before. 3) The (main) nurse from the lab was not very nice. Her voice was demanded and was not nice like the nurses I met from the previous doctors at another health insurances.

[...] I recently questioned his math acume. His reply was a question to me, "you are questioning my math ability ? I have a Doctors Degree in Molecular Biology and you are questioning my math ability ". I replied yes in this case. Yet even though he indicated I was right, he would never Treat me medically. [...] he Treats his patients as something less. Failing to even trying to communicate to someone less, as he sees it, than him. Dr Barich demonstrates no empathy or compassion to his patients. If Providece is to be the future of health care, each and every department must present itself as a warm and caring individual or the drop down cindrium shall set in. What a shame this would be not to achieve Providence's attainable position, providing direct health insurance without the Insuarance Middle Man, with Empathy and compassion.

At best he was arrogant and at worst rude. I have issues that affect my daily quality of life and came prepared with bullet point questions on one page. He didn't want to see it when I offered and told me I was rambling when I tried to review the data with him. I am switching doctors. I would hate to think my health is dependent on someone so uncaring.
