Biography & Education

Nabiel Azar, D.O., was drawn to medicine because of his fascination with the human body and how it works. "Growing up I loved to tinker with mechanical things and solve problems," he says. "I gravitated toward general surgery because it was one of the only fields where I felt I could really apply my problem-solving skills and use my hands to directly change the course of a patient's health for the better."

In his practice, Dr. Azar does a variety of general surgery, including some vascular and thoracic surgeries. "Being a surgeon is one of the greatest privileges," he says. "I enjoy educating my patients abuot their body and how it works. I encourage patients to be more proactive in their health and help them to understand that prevention is key, regardless if surgery is required or not."

After earning his medical degree from the Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine, Dr. Azar completed his internship and residency at the Ohio University College of Osteopathic Medicine. Dr. Azar is board certified in general surgery.

Born and raised in Portland, Ore., Dr. Azar enjoys hobbies such as toying with radio-controlled cars, working out, fishing when the weather permits, and reading. He is married and has three children.

Patient Ratings and Comments
About Our Survey

The Patient Rating score is based on responses given during the CAHPS Patient Experience Survey. Responses are measured on a 10-point scale, with 10 being the best score. These scores are then translated to a 5-point scale in order to display results in a 5-star rating. Comments are also gathered from the same survey and displayed in their entirety with the exception of any language that may be considered slander, libel or contain private health information, which will be removed prior to publishing the comments. These comments are the views and opinions of patients and are not endorsed by or necessarily reflect the views of Providence.
