Advances in oral, head, and neck cancer detection and treatment

04/11/2012

Cancers in the throat, tongue and other areas of the head and neck are among the most common types of cancer, and treatment can be disfiguring. April 22-28 is Oral, Head and Neck Cancer Awareness Week and with advances in minimally invasive surgical techniques, treatments are now improving.

Bryan Bell, M.D., D.D.S., medical director of Providence Oral, Head and Neck Cancer Program at Providence Cancer Center, explains the advances in the detection and treatment of this condition. As one of three surgeons in Oregon who performs robotic surgery for this type of cancer, he is able to keep the disfiguring effects of treatment to a minimum.
