Portland’s Amy Paterson is being recognized nationally as a woman who’s worked tirelessly to help make a difference in the lives of others. She is among ten women named by L’Oreal Paris as a 2012 Women of Worth honoree.
In April 2010, Amy and Melissa Moore co-founded My Little Waiting Room at Providence St. Vincent Medical Center after a breast cancer diagnosis left Amy scrambling to coordinate child care. Facing 144 medical appointments during the year she battled cancer, Amy quickly recognized the need for child care at hospitals.
Her determination led to the creation of a drop-in child care center at Providence St. Vincent Medical Center, which has had more than 12,000 visits since its opening. My Little Waiting Room is a fully-licensed facility professionally staffed by Volunteers of America Oregon. In 2013, a second My Little Waiting Room will open at Providence Portland Medical Center.
L’Oreal’s Women of Worth program is providing My Little Waiting Room with an opportunity to bring drop-in childcare to more families. Amy has been awarded a $10,000 grant for My Little Waiting Room, and she could win $25,000 more with your help. Vote for Amy once a day, every day, through Nov. 21.
The need for drop-in child care at hospitals reaches far beyond Providence Health & Services and the Pacific Northwest. However, the ability to expand My Little Waiting Room depends on donations for construction, staffing and operations.
From the darkness of cancer, Amy Paterson was able to find a ray of light in a cause close to her heart. Her extraordinary efforts to serve her community definitely make her a Woman of Worth.
Vote for Amy.
