Providence pioneering technology to help ALS patients breathe

ALS – Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis or Lou Gehrig’s disease – is a devastating diagnosis. ALS causes progressive degeneration of nerve cells, and it can lead to complete paralysis and death. But a new device, implanted by Providence into the first patient in Oregon, can helping slow the disease’s threat to breathing, and possibly extend the quality of life for many people with ALS.
