Autism Basics

This introductory course on Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) shines a light on the different characteristics associated with ASD. We’ll focus on communication, social skills, behavioral patterns and response to sensory information. Learn specific strategies to help individuals with ASD in school, at home and in the community.

About the speaker:
Mari Martinen earned her bachelor of arts in education in 1997 at Pacific Lutheran University, with a dual major in elementary education and special education. Ms. Martinen earned her master’s degree in education with a focus on special education, along with her initial administrative license, from Southern Oregon University in 2008. She has worked as an autism consultant, a STEPS classroom teacher serving students in kindergarten through 5th grade and assisted Joel Arick, Ph.D., in setting up STAR classrooms throughout southern Oregon.
