Overview

The Providence Vascular Program is one of the leading multidisciplinary vascular programs on the West Coast that includes collaboration among Interventional Radiology, Interventional Cardiology, Vascular Surgery, Neurosurgery, Neurology, and Vascular Medicine specialists working together to care for our vascular clients.

We offer specialized care for patients with a range of conditions affecting their arteries and veins. The program’s philosophy is to save lives, to provide appropriate treatment, to restore quality of life and to prevent long-term disability.

Most vascular diseases are related to atherosclerosis, a disease of the walls of arteries that carry blood throughout the body. This condition may cause plaque to build up in the vessels, blocking blood flow and weakening vessel walls. Weakened or blocked blood vessels often develop without warning. This situation can be life-threatening, leading to serious complications, such as stroke and heart attack.

Providence Vascular Program runs a robust vascular registry for clinical research and ongoing quality management. Additionally, it remains active in clinical research and teaching residents, participating in trials to evaluate the newest and most promising technology.

Our team of experts provide education, prevention, and the latest approaches to diagnose and treat vascular disease. Vascular specialists work closely with the patient’s primary care physician to ensure that the providers’ efforts are complementary.

The vascular screenings program includes robust community outreach and educational opportunities and offer vascular screenings for aortic, peripheral, carotid, and venous disease. Screenings are directed toward high-risk individuals and designed with consideration of the U.S. preventative task force data.

Providence Vascular Program includes a regional vascular laboratory with a full complement of diagnostic studies available. The labs are one of the busiest in the country, serving as a training site for vascular technicians throughout the West Coast. The Non-Invasive Vascular Labs at Providence Portland Medical Center, Providence St. Vincent Medical Center and Providence Milwaukie Hospital are nationally accredited through the Intersocietal Commission for the Accreditation of  Vascular Labs.
