Osteoporosis: who is at risk and what can be done?

We all lose bone mass over time, but for those with osteoporosis, it can lead to devastating fractures.

Who should get tested?

  • Women 65 years or older
  • Men 70 years or older
  • Anyone middle age or older who had a fracture unrelated to injury
  • Other people with risk factors such as very thin people and those with a family history, medical problems or certain medications

Tips to avoid bone loss:

  • Get enough Calcium
  • Stay physically active
  • Don’t smoke

There are therapies and medications to help protect people diagnosed with osteoporosis.
