Family medicine resident physicians and your delivery
When it comes time for your baby to be born, everyone on your care team will be focused on you and your baby.
As a patient at Providence Portland Medical Center, you may have a family medicine resident physician assigned to your care. If a resident participates in the delivery of your baby, he or she will work under the close guidance of your own care provider. There will be no additional physician’s fees for the resident.
What is a family medicine resident?
Family medicine is a specialty centered on long-term relationships between doctors and patients. Family physicians receive training in all major medical areas, such as internal medicine, surgery, obstetrics and gynecology, pediatrics, neurology, dermatology and geriatrics. This training allows them to care for patients of all ages through all stages of life.
Family medicine residents are doctors who have graduated from accredited medical schools. They are now pursuing additional training in family medicine. Providence Portland Medical Center is a teaching hospital for the Providence Family Medicine Residency program. We carefully selected each resident for our program based on his or her skills, knowledge and desire to provide highquality health care to people of all ages.
If you prefer that a resident physician not be involved in your care, please let us know. Our goal is to provide you with excellent care, and we look forward to helping you welcome your baby.
