Providence Milwaukie Hospital, a 77-bed community hospital in suburban Portland, has recently undergone major renovation with extensive emergency department, MRI and CT expansions.
Built to meet the needs of the growing communities served by the hospital, Providence Milwaukie’s new emergency department is approximately 16,000 square feet. Its 20 treatment rooms have the capacity to care for 40,000 patient-visits a year.
The hospital recently added a permanent MRI suite equipped with a General Electric Twin Speed MRI, which is 40 percent quieter and provides 50 percent faster scan times than most other technology in the community.
With CT volumes up 21 percent in 2004, the hospital added a second CT scanner. The new 16-slice CT is able to scan the whole body in about 45 seconds.
Providence Health & Services has prioritized this hospital for substantial growth over the next decade. Providence Milwaukie Hospital represents an excellent environment for the continuity component of family medicine education. The residency has the enthusiastic support of the medical staff, the majority of whom are family physicians and general internists.
Providence Milwaukie Hospital has no other residency programs.
