Providence Heart and Vascular Institute surgical and interventional services offers the expertise and experience of superbly skilled teams providing a full range of cardiovascular procedures. The most common interventional procedures performed at the institute include: stent placement, electrophysiology, cardiac rhythm management, coronary artery bypass grafts and valve surgery.
Our vascular disease experts are highly-skilled in the latest interventions for peripheral artery disease, carotid artery disease and abdominal aortic aneurysms. Providence Heart and Vascular Institute has pioneered some of the most advanced interventional treatment options available.
More patients choose Providence
As the largest volume cardiovascular disease provider in Oregon, our program offers comprehensive treatment for patients with acute myocardial infarctions (heart attacks), including transfers from other regions in Oregon.
National recognition for timely treatment
PHVI has received national recognition in being among Oregon’s fastest teams to provide heart attack care. We continually follow our “time-to-treatment” times and continually strive to maintain and improve on our already excellent results.
First to offer new treatment options
In 2001, Providence cardiovascular surgeons became the first team west of the Mississippi to perform robotic-assisted mitral valve repair surgery.
In 2004, Providence Heart and Vascular Institute unveiled the world’s first completely digital cardiac operating suite, featuring the state-of- the- art in surgical technology. The institute established an international precedent by combining all of the technologies into one cardiac operating suite.
Hybrid cath lab/interventional surgical suites
The institute continues the tradition of innovation with the development of hybrid cath labs/interventional surgical suites that combine the capabilities of an operating room and the high-quality imaging in an interventional cath lab. This advancement allows interventionalists and surgeons to work in tandem on the patient during the procedure.
Key features of these hybrid rooms include:
- Digital imaging for enhanced visualization and precision
- Echocardiography for in-suite diagnostic capabilities
- High-definition television for enhanced digital imaging
- Digital recording and audio for improved communications for medical teams
- Remote videoconferencing
The West Coast's first convergent procedure
In the fall of 2010, following in a proud tradition of offering many of new treatments for cardiovascular disease, Providence Heart and Vascular Institute was proud to be first program on the West Coast to offer the convergent procedure, one of latest in treatments in treating atrial fibrillation.
Providence Valve Center: Oregon's first Sapien valve and only site for PARTNER II clinical trial
In November 2011, Providence Valve Center became one of the first sites in the country - and the only one in Oregon – to offer the Sapien transcatherter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) for patients as an alternative to traditional open-heart surgery. As the highest-volume provider of TAVR, we are excited to be a part of this transformative and lifesaving care.
Providence is the only site in Oregon testing the next generation of this minimally invasive treatment. Through the PARTNER II trial, Providence is providing TAVR to a broader segment of patients with less risk.
Center for Advanced Heart Disease: New therapies for heart failure patients
Providence offers eligible patients with otherwise untreatable advanced cardiomyopathy, congestive heart failure, valvular disorders and coronary artery disease the latest therapies, including ventricular assist devices.
