Howard's 'Heart of Gold'
Portland philanthropist Howard Hedinger has a playful soul, and a commitment to the welfare of children and animals that is expressed through the Hedinger Family Foundation.
Over the past several years, Howard has become deeply involved with the Center for Medically Fragile Children at Providence Child Center. Not only has he generously supported the center's physical therapy, recreational therapy and augmentative communication programs, he spends time at the center making friends with the children and staff members. For his devotion, Howard recently was honored by the Providence Child Center Foundation with the 2011 Heart of Gold Award.
More than 300 people attended the award dinner this year, and contributed a record amount - more than $400,000 - for the CMFC recreational therapy program.
"Howard is a treasured friend of Providence Child Center, and has made an incredible difference in improving the lives of medically fragile children," says Pat Budo, center administrator. "He truly has a heart of gold."
