Our extraordinary team, coupled with state-of-the-art technology, creates the environment for superior treatment outcomes for cancer patients. Our physicians and staff are dedicated to delivering compassionate care for our patients while offering support to their families. Patient-centered care is our philosophy at Providence Cancer Institute. Your type of radiation therapy may include:

External beam radiation therapy treatment
  • Three-dimensional conformal radiation therapy (3D-CRT)
  • Intensity-modulated radiation therapy (IMRT)
  • Image-guided radiation therapy (IGRT)
  • Stereotactic body radiation therapy (SBRT)
Internal radiation therapy
  • HDR brachytherapy, (high-dose-rate brachytherapy)
Linear Accelerator
Precise and efficient radiation therapy

Providence utilizes a revolutionary linear accelerator, the Elekta Versa HD, that uses conventional radiation therapy combined with advanced stereotactic precision. This gives our radiation oncologists the flexibility to treat a broad spectrum of tumors throughout the body with conventional approaches, as well as complex cancers that require targeted precision.

  • Stereotactic Body Radiotherapy (SBRT) provides short-course treatments (five or fewer treatments) for select lung or abdominal tumors, compared to 25 or more daily treatment treatments under traditional regimens.
  • Velocity Modulated Adaptive Radiotherapy (VMAT) uses one or two dynamic arcs for daily treatment, compared to multiple static treatment fields. This technology allows treatments to take half the time of traditional treatment. It is used to treat lung, abdominal and pelvic tumors.
Improved treatment outcomes for several types of cancer
  • Head and neck cancer
Radiation therapy has made significant progress as a front-line treatment for squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) of the head and neck. Treating head and neck cancers can be difficult and complicated because of tumor proximity to critical structures around the head, oral cavity and throat. The Versa HD linear accelerator is specifically designed to address the complexities of treating these cancers.
  • Lung cancer
Radiation therapy is a common treatment for many lung cancers. Because of the continuous respiratory motion of the lungs, it can be a challenge for traditional radiation technologies to target the tumor without damaging healthy tissue. The Versa HD is combined with our 4D CT scanner to maximize tumor targeting, which reduces radiation exposure to nearby healthy tissues.
  • Prostate cancer
The high mobility of the prostate and its proximity to critical structures – the rectum, bladder and urethra – creates challenges when administering radiation therapy. Our radiation oncologists can visualize and track the prostate and surrounding soft tissue critical structures with Versa HD. This helps reduce side effects and damage to other organs.

At Providence, our priority is patient safety, patient satisfaction and quality clinical outcomes. Our caregivers have specialized experience working with patients in the areas of infectious diseases, oncology, nutrition support, pain management and specialty infusion medications.

We provide a wide range of infusion therapies, from IV antibiotics and hydration to IV nutrition and other prescribed IV therapies. We also offer specialized nutrition therapy for children and adults who require tube feeding.

Our infusion therapies include:
  • Antibiotics, antivirals and antifungals
  • Biotherapy/specialty medications
  • Blood transfusions
  • Chemotherapy
  • Hydration
  • Intravenous immune globulin (IVIG)
  • Peripheral and central line maintenance
