Providence specialists publish, present clinical expertise

Nicholas J. Okon, D.O., will give an oral presentation at the 17th annual international meeting of the American Telemedicine Association in April. Dr. Okon, who helped developed Providence Telestroke Network, will speak on the program's clinical success in Oregon.

Vivek Deshmukh, M.D., FACS, medical director of cerebrovascular and endovascular neurosurgery, gave an oral presentation at the World Federation of Interventional and Therapeutic Neuroradiology meeting in Val D'Isere, France, in January. Dr. Deshmukh spoke on “Embolization of Hydrophilic Coating from Access Catheters: Is it Associated with Delayed Hemorrhage after Pipeline Embolization Device Usage?”

A poster on “Microscope Integrated Radiography: A Seamless Way to Review Patient Imaging Intraoperatively,” by Dr. Deshmukh and Pankaj Gore, M.D., co-medical director of Providence Cranial Services, will be presented at the American Association of Neurological Surgeons meeting in Miami in April, one of the two major neurosurgical meetings this year.

Stanley Cohan, M.D., Ph.D., medical director of Providence Multiple Sclerosis Center, co-authored a study on the immunotherapy drug, Tovaxin. “A randomized clinical trial of autologous T-cell therapy in multiple sclerosis: subset analysis and implications for trial design,” which appeared in Multiple Sclerosis Journal. Dr. Cohan presented at the American Academy of Neurology last year, and will present again at the academy’s 2012 annual meeting in April.

J. Rafe Sales, M.D., is co-author of “Relationship of donor variables and graft dimension on biomechanical performance of femoral ring allograft,” which appeared in the Journal of Orthopaedic Research in December.
