Oncologic dentistry/maxillofacial prosthodontics

Also known as: Maxillofacial prosthodontics, Dentistry for head, neck or oral cancer

Oncologic dentistry and maxillofacial prosthodontics are services for patients with cancers of the head, neck or mouth. Services can include a thorough dental screening prior to radiation therapy or chemotherapy, removal of indicated teeth, replacement of teeth after treatment, restoration of oral function and palatal obturation and other facial prostheses to normalize the ability to speak, chew and swallow.

Providence Head, Neck and Oral Cancer Program has a heavy emphasis on oral and oropharyngeal cancer. Thus, we draw on the expertise of both physicians and dentists to not just cure the patient of the cancer when possible, but to optimize their quality of life by normalizing the ability to speak, chew and swallow.
