Also known as:
Visual evoked potentials, Brainstem auditory evoked potentials, Somatosensory evoked potentials
Evoked potentials are diagnostic tests that can help detect problems with the nerve pathways of the body. Patients are given a stimulus, and the nerve pathways are evaluated based on the time it takes for the stimulus to travel along the nerve.
Visual evoked potentials examine the visual pathway. Brainstem auditory evoked potentials examine the auditory (hearing) pathway. Somatosensory evoked potentials examine the spinal cord pathways.
